April 7 – Sabbath – Rev. John Buehrens

Former TVUUC minister John Buehrens is returning to our pulpit to talk about the meaning of Sabbath for religious liberals. He will share the story of how our congregation gave him a sabbatical in 1979 – 40 years ago -” that saved and transformed my ministry.”

The Rev. John Buehrens was the minister of TVUUC from 1973-81. He currently serves as senior minister of First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco, California. He was president of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations from 1993 to 2001. He is the co-author with Forrest Church of A Chosen Faith: An Introduction to Unitarian Universalism. His other books include Understanding the Bible: An Introduction for Skeptics, Seekers, and Religious Liberals (2004); A House for Hope: The Promise of Progressive Religion for the Twenty-first Century, with Rebecca Ann Parker (2011); and Universalists and Unitarians in America: A People’s History (2011).
