The 8th Principle Task Force invites members of the congregation to consider taking Beloved Conversations this Fall. We believe it is one of the ways that can live into the recently 8th Principle. Several of us have taken it and found it to be very useful and transformative( please read the testimonials below). It is now offered virtually and much more accessible. “Beloved Conversations is the signature offering of The Fahs Collaborative at Meadville Lombard Theological School—it is a program for Unitarian Universalists seeking to embody racial justice as a spiritual practice. In Beloved Conversations, we are here to heal the impact of racism on our lives, in order to get free together. ” Registration ends on August 31st and the classes start Sept 21st., The class costs $250, but there are scholarships available For more info please click the following link.
Testimonials
“Intrigued by the Beloved Conversations course? In the spring session for those of us who identify as white, I was lovingly stretched into discomfort, supported by regular small group meetings and new ideas and practices in thinking about myself and my role this journey. I learned to remind myself that I am enough and to move past trying to be too much to feed my imperfection and its urgency. I learned that I need to slow down, let go of my need to fix things, and move at the speed of trust. I learned about “and” thinking. Some of your truths and some of my truths may be contradictory, but there is much more that we can agree on. I’m learning to honor the complexity of different truths; I can still cherish my memories of my paternal grandparents’ farm and our family and at the same time acknowledge the unsettling loss in realizing it was all built on the lie that we were entitled to that land. I learned to look for joy and meaning in our collective learning and efforts. There was much more, and I’m still trying to internalize it all. It was definitely worth my time and my discomfort. “

I also loved the Meaning Making Sessions which were like a church service.
