TVUUC brought 106 members and friends to the Knoxville Civic Auditorium last Tuesday to witness and support the big annual public gathering by Justice Knox, where local leaders are asked to commit to actions for justice in our community.
This year, we got positive commitments at the Assembly for adding Microtransit to KAT’s public bus system, and a promise from our Mayor to participate in a summit with city and county leaders to help solve the crisis of homelessness. In addition, we heard about actions currently underway to embed restorative practices for all students in public school discipline and to continue applying proven efforts that successfully interrupt gun violence.
A big THANK YOU to all the JK network members in our church who invited people, and to everyone who made time in their schedules to attend! TVUUC was able to significantly contribute to the total attendance of 1211 people. As one of the larger of the 22 member congregations, we brought almost 9% of the total attendance. (If all 22 congregations had been as successful, the crowd would have been over 2,200 strong!!)
There’s lots more coming up for Justice Knox! If you have questions or would like to get involved, talk to any one of us.
