Sunday morning worship is the single time each week that our whole community gathers together. Below are some of the ways our members give their time and energy to support worship services at TVUUC.

For information about our upcoming Sunday’s service, please visit our “This Sunday” page, where you can also listen to recordings of past Sermons.

Worship Team
As needed – Members meet once a month to plan lay-led or visiting minister services when the minister is not worship leader, including several summer services. Assist worship assistants and church staff with all aspects of service delivery.

Sound System
Every Sunday, also concerts and other special events – Team member arrives half an hour before the service. Set up microphones and computer to amplify and record service, sit in sound booth and make adjustments as needed. Export recorded service to MP3 player on computer. Put microphones away after final service and turn off system. One volunteer needed for each service (or both). Orientation and training to system gladly arranged.

Ushers
4 Ushers needed every Sunday. Ushers should arrive 15-30 minutes prior to service. Greet people as they enter the sanctuary, providing an order of service. Assist any person that needs help walking or traversing the aisles. As necessary, encourage audience to move closer together to open additional seating. Pass the collection baskets to ensure all members of the congregation have the opportunity to donate. Tally attendance. Following service, collect orders of service for recycling and greet people as they leave the sanctuary. Count the offering (only 2 ushers needed). Help tidy up sanctuary by checking seating for hymnals, envelopes, pencils/pens, straighten chairs and remove any cups or other trash that is obvious. Volunteering for one or more regular slot each month is appreciated and especially helpful. Contact Chris Brown with questions or to volunteer for an opportunity.

Flowers Team
Every week – A member creates a large arrangement for the table in front of the sanctuary for Sunday services, and smaller arrangements for the Welcome Table and rest rooms. Help is available for the smaller arrangements, as the priority is always the Sanctuary arrangement. S/he uses flowers and natural materials that are homegrown, from fields, or from floral shops. We also have two seasonal silk arrangements for emergency coverage if needed! Donors who wish to Honor With Flowers may have given funds for specific Sundays, and team will then submit a note for the Order of Service. Arrangements are put in place between Friday andSunday before the service, and removed early to middle of the following week (help with this is available as well, if the arranger cannot make it back to church for clean up mid week. Six to twelve members rotate scheduling. Tips on effective floral arrangement gladly offered to anyone interested in joining the team.

Memorial Service Coordination
As needed – Four to eight team members respond to requests from TVUUC-connected families planning a memorial service at the church. They provide coordination of details of service – guest book, flowers, sanctuary preparation and seating,or whatever is needed. They provide a reception that meets the needs and desires of the family, often requesting donated food items from the congregation.
