Some of the most basic choices we make every day concern food. Beyond what’s available, what meets our health needs, what we like, and what we can afford, food choices have an ethical dimension. But once we factor in food miles, animal welfare, packaging, workers’ rights, pesticides, and herbicides, ethical food choices can be downright daunting. Which considerations are most important? How do we -– as individuals, families, groups, and as a congregational community — respond with care for the interconnected web of life when our circumstances change? On this Sunday, organized by our Green Sanctuary Program, we welcome philosophers and TVUUC members Annette Mendola and John Nolt as they invite us to engage in thoughtful, joyful reflection on how to make choices that are ethical among options that are incomparable and still feed body, spirit, and community.
John Nolt and Annette Mendola are both philosophers and members of TVUUC. They have raised their 3 kids in blended vegetarian-omnivorous families, and both strongly value their respective “ancestral” foodways.
