The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key on September 14, 1814. On the eve of that anniversary let’s contemplate the question – do we need a new anthem? Alternatives might include America the Beautiful or My Country Tis Of Thee. This Sunday our minister will reflect on the song Anthem from the musical Chess which he first heard in the midst of the Cold War but seems like it was written for today offering a vision beyond nationalism.
