The Indian proverb reminds us that ‘There are many paths to the mountaintop’ although some people tend to insist we keep our eyes on one path only. There are both fundamentalist and universalist traditions found in every faith. Hindu fundamentalism has been in the news lately in the era of Modi and the politics of Indian nationalism. This Sunday we will celebrate Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, with special attention to Hindu Universalism.
