The Disability Experience and How We Can All Create Community-In-Person and Virtual Worship

Guest Speaker-Stephanie B. Cook-ADA Coordinator City of Knoxville
People with and without disabilities have historically worked together to make changes leading to a more inclusive society for everyone. Today, facilities and programs are more “accessible to the disabled,” but they are rarely inclusive. Ms. Cook will discuss the history of the disability rights movement, how advocates created the changes we see today, and how the job is not done yet. Modern technology makes almost nothing impossible and modern medicine is greatly extending human life. Ms. Cook will share ways that we can work together to ensure that our future is accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for all of us.
One of my favorite quotes is from John Wesley:
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
I am a firm believer in “Nothing About Us Without Us” which is the motto of the disability rights movement.
