TVUUC Snow & Inclement Weather Policy

Just a reminder of our Snow and Inclement Weather Policy during the week and on Sundays.

During the winter months, not only heavy snow, but also icy conditions or a power failure may cause a cancellation. This is particularly true after dark. If the weather is at all doubtful, please check before coming.

We will attempt to alert you of any closings. However sometimes that is impossible, so here are the tips you may use to prevent coming to a closed building.

Tips to avoid arriving at a closed building on Sunday or through the week ·

  • We will contact WBIR-TV (www.wbir.com) as soon as we know of a schedule change.
  • If weather conditions seem questionable, please check the church

website: www.tvuuc.org and FaceBook pages. (Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and TVUUC Members and Friends)

  • During the week: Building closings will use the Knox County Schools schedule to make decisions.

The first day of an inclement weather event:

If schools are closed all day: All activities and meetings are canceled.

Subsequent days of an inclement weather event:

Check to see if the church has posted a building delay or closure. If not, the building will be open at the normal time. (Please remember to check with the organizer of your

meeting or event to see if your event is still scheduled. If you are the organizer of a

meeting, please contact the church by e-mail and we will update the church calendar.)

If schools are delayed: The building will be closed and all morning activities and meetings will be delayed until the school opening time.

If schools are closing early: All afternoon and evening activities and meetings will be canceled after the school closing time.

Ways in which we will try to contact you

  1. We will post the notice on our website: tvuuc.org , our FaceBook pages (Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and TVUUC Members and Friends)
  2. We will send an e-mail to everyone on our newsletter mailing lists.
  3. If you have set up a REALM account make sure your name, cell phone number andemail are current with us. We may be sending out automated messages about closings and other special events.

Many factors determine if services are canceled

Icy Streets– Sometimes major streets may be clear when others around the church are not.

Icy Parking Lots– Holding services and keeping the building open means we are capable of parking vehicles, and a determining factor is whether our parking lots are safe and accessible. If the parking lots are frozen with ice and snow we have no place to accommodate those who drive.

Safe Entries– Our Staff arrive early to clear walks and entries. Their ability to keep these entries accessible is another determining factor. If you would like to volunteer with Snow and Ice Removal on Sundays or during the week, please contact Claudia Pressley at: claudiapressley (AT) tvuuc.org.

*We ask that you use your own discretion as to the safety of the roads between your home and our church campus. We would never suggest that anyone travel if they don’t have complete confidence in their ability to arrive safely.*

Please remember to check WBIR, the church website and the church Facebook pages.

We will try to post information as soon as possible.

Stay safe and warm, and enjoy the snow!
