Environmental Concerns Committee
Members of this committee work to create awareness and understanding of environmental issues within the church and in the community. Current initiatives include the Green Church-Green Jobs initiative, an annual Tree Planting Project following mountaintop removal, recycling projects and education, and enhancement of Third Creek Greenway from Concord St. to Sutherland Ave. through regular litter pick-up and native plantings, and continual monitoring of and education around the solar array on our roof.

Community Garden

The TVUUC Community Garden welcomes members and friends of the church to participate in the church’s chemical-free backyard garden – growing things for themselves and/or helping to grow things for donation to the TVUUC Little Market which supports the TVUUC Little Food Pantry.
Personal Section – 12 raised beds available for a small fee
Donation Section – 24 raised beds planted, maintained and harvested by volunteers
Memorial Orchard – re-establishing 12 dwarf fruit trees; a Boy Scout group in Spring/2025
Perennial Garden – fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers planted, maintained and harvested by volunteers
Butterfly Garden – being planted this year to provide habitat for pollinators – planted and maintained by the Butterfly Garden Team

Sacred Grounds
The goal of this program is to create, offer and support inter-generational activities and events that take place outside on the church grounds with the purpose of helping people have hands-on experiences where the natural world intertwines with spiritual growth. We want to build recognition of the grounds as our outdoor sanctuary and an integral part of TVUUC’s certification as a Green Sanctuary. Outdoor activities may include picnics, services, explorations, yard games, campouts, art projects, and more.
