Sankofa

Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana. The literal translation of the word and the symbol is “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.”.
The past year was difficult, yet strong, valuable lessons were constantly being displayed for our growth. Today, dance, celebrate and give praise we are still here to look back and use what we have learned during 2020. When we look back at the injustices, the deaths, and the losses we have experienced we see how we have helped our communities, held fast to protecting each other and attempted to provide the socialization we need as human beings.
So come to service, relaxed in your pajamas, and celebrate. Be ready to dance, weep and be joyful that we have a new year to be mindful of our loves, our duties, our privileges, and our responsibilities. Speaker-Rev. Jametta Alston
